Tasting Notes: This Grüner Veltliner is an other masterpiece from Mathias Warnung. It is incredibly profound and complex, yet it is so lively and youthful that you would never conclude that it is so mature. The oxidative ageing can be felt discreetly, but it expresses itself more with wax, pear and spicy aromas. The structure is vibrant, salty and intense, there is dense grip and also power, plus youthful freshness and terrific tension.

Feldstück Chardonnay - Matthias Warnung - 2018

Country: Austria
Region: Niederoesterreich
Subregion: Kamptal
Alcohol: 13%
Aging in wood: Yes
Soil: Loess, Clay, Chalk
Added S02: Yes
Funkyness: Mild
Tasting Notes: The Chardonnay Feldstück of Matthias Warnung is like most of his wines aged over 2 years in large neutral wooden barrels on the full lees and was bottled unfined and unfiltered. On the nose pear, fresh quince, chamomile and some hay. On the palate a subtle phenolic paired with a delicate acidity, no noticeable wood, quince again with a slight yeasty touch, finishing slightly salty with a delicate melt and a bit of baby fat. It is not one of those artificially overloaded wines bursting with power. It is coherent in every way and shines with its elegant yet delicate nature.

Espere Grüner Veltliner - Matthias Warnung - 2020

Vintage: 2017
Country: Austria
Region: Niederoesterreich
Subregion: Kamptal
Alcohol: 13%
Aging in wood: Yes
Soil: Loess, Clay, Chalk
Added S02: Yes
Funkyness: Mild
Tasting Notes: This Grüner Veltliner remains for over 2 years in old (neutral) wooden barrels -in the restored vaulted cellar- on the full yeast and is then drawn to the bottle unfiltered with minimal addition of sulfur. Pale golden yellow, multi-layered nose of apricot roast, yeasty spice with a phenolic touch, hints of dried wild thyme and fresh hay. On the palate a creamy texture from yeast aging, but immediately a savory acidity sets in with a fine pepper spice, plus some salty bread crust, quince and grapefruit zest, extremely good draw with proud length, massive finish.
