Viñas Serranas
Castilla y León, Spain
Viñas Serranas is a dynamic young winery project founded in 2017 by four passionate partners—César Ruiz, Alberto Martín, Bosi Jiménez, and Miquel Udina—with deep roots in Spain’s rugged Sierra de Salamanca, southern Castilla y León. Not a traditional family estate but a collaborative revival of the region’s ancient viticultural heritage, they manage 12 hectares of steep, manually worked organic vineyards (shifting toward biodynamics) on diverse granite, slate, and schist soils at 600-800m elevation.
Focusing on indigenous Rufete (their flagship in Ciclón and single-vineyard expressions), they also explore rare Rufete Blanco and Calabrés (local Garnacha), crafting fresh, mineral-driven reds that highlight floral red fruits, herbs, and saline tension. Post-2022, wines carry the new Sierra de Salamanca PDO. Low-intervention vinification uses French oak, vats, and steel for nuance; production emphasizes terroir over volume in this humid, once-industrial zone. Their wines revive forgotten Sierra Francia gems with vibrant, age-worthy finesse.
