La Ginestra
,
In the 1980s, a few alternative people came together to form a co-operative with the aim of preserving and renewing the traditions of the Tuscan countryside. It was set up on the uncultivated land of a farm that had been abandoned for decades and owes its name to the beautiful weeds that could be found in the fields at the time.
After many years of work, the fields were replanted and the houses made habitable: the farm now covers 125 hectares of arable land, pastures, woods and olive groves. The choice of organic farming is a matter of course: the communards have been producing organically, biodynamically and synergistically (Perma Culture) since 1989. The La Ginestra project continues to grow in many directions.
Viticulture did not exist at the beginning, but was introduced about 11 years ago. Today, Sangiovese, Cabernet, Merlot, Colorino and Canaiolo grow on 5.11 hectares.
In addition to wine, the co-operative produces olive oil, honey and breeds semi-wild pigs and chickens. It also farms and harvests spelt, wheat, field beans, oats and barley.
Trees have been planted in the forests and on the outskirts to harvest precious woods. Agroturismo, with its own hotel and organic restaurant, offers tastings, training courses and guided tours of the farm for schools and interested groups.
The 2nd generation of the former squatters is now in charge. Their wines have completely won us over
