Gut Oggau: A Unique Blend of Biodynamic Winemaking and Storytelling
Founded in 2007 by Eduard and Stephanie Tscheppe-Eselböck, Gut Oggau is a renowned winery in Burgenland, Austria, celebrated for its commitment to biodynamic practices and its innovative approach to winemaking. The estate spans 14 hectares and focuses on creating wines that reflect the unique terroir of the region while telling a captivating story through each bottle.
Biodynamic Practices
Eduard and Stephanie transformed an abandoned 17th-century winery into a vibrant biodynamic vineyard. The land had been untouched for over 20 years, allowing the soil to recover from previous chemical use. This provided a perfect starting point for implementing biodynamic methods, which prioritize soil health, biodiversity, and minimal intervention in the winemaking process.
Wines with Personality
Gut Oggau's wines are unique in that each one is personified with its own name and character, forming a "family tree" of wines. This idea emerged as Eduard and Stephanie noticed distinct personalities in their wines during fermentation and aging. The labels, designed by artist Jung von Matt, depict fictional family members, adding a narrative dimension to the drinking experience.
