Sylvain Dittière founded Domaine La Porte Saint Jean in 2010 at age 25 in Montreuil-Bellay, south of Saumur, Loire Valley. Son of rose growers, he trained in viticulture and oenology, interning at elite estates: Domaine de l’Ecu (Muscadet), Marc Tempé (Alsace), Gérard Gauby (Roussillon), Thierry Germain (Roches Neuves), Château Yvonne, and Clos Rougeard with the Foucault brothers—shaping his low-intervention ethos.

Organic Mastery in Tuffeau Cellars

Farming <10ha of old Chenin, Cabernet Franc, and Sauvignon on tuffeau limestone, clay-sand soils, he hand-harvests, uses gravity-fed transfers into 300-400L barrels/foudres, and ages wines in a 16th-century underground cellar for purity and finesse. Minimal SO₂, no fining—yielding vibrant, elegant wines evoking Clos Rougeard’s refinement.

Global Acclaim

Married to Pauline Foucault (sister of Antoine, Domaine du Collier), Sylvain’s La Perlée and reds earn “next Clos Rougeard” praise for tension, minerality, and vibrancy. A Loire benchmark, his 20,000-bottle production exports widely.
