Le Petit Saint Vincent: Saumur’s Organic Cabernet Franc Maestro
Dominique Joseph (“Pélo”), fourth or fifth-generation vigneron, has led Domaine Le Petit Saint Vincent since 1990 in Varrains, heart of Saumur-Champigny. Taking over 10ha from family roots (five generations paternal, four maternal), he expanded to 13ha, pioneering organic farming by 1992—certified 2010—on tuffeau limestone/clay slopes amid neighbors like Clos Rougeard.

Hands-On Organic Craft
Hand-harvested Cabernet Franc (98% of plantings) plus rare Chenin like Les Perruchets undergo gentle extraction: partial destemming, concrete vats (oak for top Les Poyeux), minimal SO₂ (~35mg/L total), and tuffeau cave aging. Low yields yield vibrant, precise reds with fruit purity, chalky tension, and finesse.

Terroir Spotlight and Rise
Since 2011, single-vineyard bottlings (Les Poyeux, Clos Lyzières, Perruchets) highlight elite sites. Pélo’s humble evolution—from quantity to quality—earns acclaim as Saumur’s next elite, blending tradition, vitality, and community spirit.
