Markus Ruch: A Pioneer in Swiss Winemaking
Markus Ruch, a prominent winemaker from Switzerland, has carved a niche for himself in the realm of low intervention winemaking. Despite the Klettgau region's history of low-quality grape production, Markus has always believed in its immense potential. Since 2007, he has been cultivating his own vines in this northernmost Swiss wine region, renowned for its heavy, limestone-rich clay soils.
Markus's journey into winemaking began with extensive apprenticeships, gaining invaluable experience in biodynamic viticulture with Derain in Burgundy and learning the pursuit of quality and authenticity with Zündel in Ticino.

Crafting Unique and Expressive Wines and Ciders
Markus Ruch is known for his meticulous attention to detail in both the vineyard and the cellar. He employs traditional methods combined with innovative techniques to craft wines that are expressive and full of life. His Pinot Noir wines are among the most intriguing in Switzerland, showcasing the unique taste of Klettgau's terroir with high plant diversity and imaginative winemaking. In addition to his acclaimed wines, Markus produces natural ciders, applying the same minimal intervention philosophy to create crisp, balanced ciders from local apples.

Recognition and Influence
Over the years, Markus has gained a reputation as a leading figure in the Swiss wine industry. His wines are celebrated for their complexity, purity, and the way they capture the essence of the Schaffhausen terroir. He has also been a mentor and collaborator to many, including Beat Thommen, furthering the reach of his sustainable winemaking philosophy.
